DESCRIPTION OVERVIEW:
The GCA Youth House Building Internship provides 174 hours of exceptional construction training curriculum, for students, ages 16 – 24, to meet the demands of pursuing semi-skilled employment, enhanced with the opportunity for more advanced career options. The mission of our curriculum is to present to employers, not only job-ready graduates, but additionally workers with validated understanding of their task assignment and responsibilities with the skills to perform them.
The GCA Youth House Building Internship includes studies, in the whole house building
process, wherein students use the principles of residential and light commercial construction
projects. Students will undergo studies in various subjects (listed below), then apply their studies in planning and drawing a floor plan, followed by building a model house, from these plans. The principal manuals, to be used by our students, are 2018 IRC The International Residential Code for One – and Two- Family Dwelling, and 2015 IECC International Energy Conservation Code, which are also being enforced, by the State of Georgia. After graduation, they will receive a Home Building Certificate, choose their career and proceed to continued education of their choice, or interview with an employer (Contractor, Construction Firm, Manufacturer, Building Materials Supplier, Real Estate Company, etc.) and begin their On-The-Job Training (OJT), as an Intern in the field. Total cost is $5000.
